The wreck happened on the Meadowbrook State Parkway in Uniondale, north of the Southern State Parkway, at around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21.

New York State Police said a Toyota Camry was heading northbound when it left the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver, 80-year-old Lillie Carpenter, of Roosevelt, died at the scene, police said. Nobody else was in the vehicle and no other cars were involved.

Investigators determined that speed and a wet roadway contributed to the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact New York State Police at 631-756-3300.

Additional details about Carpenter’s life were not immediately available. Her family is invited to share funeral details, a statement, and/or photos by emailing mmashburn@dailyvoice.com
